Srinagar, Jammu And Kashmir —
With the imposition of a strict lockdown in the Valley of Kashmir in view of the increasing positive cases of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), some teachers have now taken to YouTube for making online lectures accessible to the student community.
The online mode of teaching has been taken up by
many, from ordinary educated youth to school teachers and college professors,
with the aim to ensure that students keep in touch with their studies amid the
Aaqib Ahmad Sofi, a resident of Aglar village in
Shopian district, is one such teacher who has been quite active on the
video-sharing platform. He has uploaded lectures on his channel “DeMYSTiFieD
PHYSICS BY AAQIB SIR” for students of Class 11th and 12th, a move which has
been hailed by locals, especially the students.
Aqib, who has completed his post-graduation in
Physics from the University of Kashmir, has been uploading the video lectures
on a daily basis since the lockdown was imposed.
“We keep witnessing shutdowns and lockdowns in Kashmir by which, among others, students suffer most. So, I decided to upload lectures on YouTube for the students who could learn while staying home for the time being.”
Before the lockdown was imposed, he was teaching Physics
at local coaching centres but now, Aaqib has switched to YouTube. “I am
delivering lectures on all topics of Class 11th and 12th for Physics subject as
per both NCERT as well as CBSE syllabus.”
Encouraged by the positive feedback from the
students, Sofi is hopeful that he will cover the whole syllabus of both the
classes, besides lectures as per NEET syllabus. However, he rues that due to
low internet speed, he is able to upload only one video lecture per day.
Assistant Professor at Government Degree College
Pulwama, Mohammad Iqbal Bhat is yet another teacher who has started delivering
lectures online using the YouTube platform.
Master of Computer Applications with the repute of qualifying SLET, Mr Iqbal has earned a quite a few subscribers on his channel “Prof MIB Creations”.
“This is just a humble initiative to fill the gap,
created by the shutdowns and lockdowns, to some extent. However, you can’t
exactly get a classroom-like feel,” he says.
Although many teachers are more inclined to go for live broadcasting the lectures using mobile applications like Zoom Cloud Meetings, Iqbal says “I prefer YouTube because not only videos remain accessible for all, irrespective of their location and profession, but also the different video qualities that it offers. And, this is important as high-speed mobile internet is barred.”
Pertinently, the teachers also voiced support for
the growing demand of 4G mobile internet services in the UT so that they can
upload the content without any hassles and utilize more resources on the
internet so that life is made easy for the student community amid the
uncertainty of lockdown period.
